Meet the Team

CAROLINE DUNPHY 
Co-Artistic Director, Director & Performer

Caroline has worked over the past 28 years as an actor, director, theatre maker and trainer/educator. She holds a repertoire of original theatre works dedicated to interdisciplinary and transcultural performance, and new Australian stories with independent and major organisations in contemporary theatre, drama, cabaret and comedy. Caroline was on the board of Queensland Theatre from 2003 to 2006, has taught at universities nationally (most recently the QUT Acting Program), is currently an associate artist at NORPA (NSW), and with Belloo Creative, company in residence with Queensland Theatre. Caroline worked in avant-garde theatre for 15 years both in Australia and Japan as a senior company member of Frank Theatre (Ozfrank) until 2010. Her specialised area is predominately in the Suzuki-inspired method Frank Suzuki Performance Aesthetics (FSPA) based on the theatrical discipline of the classic Suzuki Actor Training Method (SATM). Caroline has appeared on Australian and British television and acted with a range of theatre companies nationally.

KATHERINE LYALL-WATSON
Co-Artistic Director & Writer

Katherine is a Meanjin-based artist and an award-winning Australian playwright. She is the author of four published plays (Boy, Lost - winner of the 2022 Lord Mayor’s Award for Best Australian New Work, Motherland, Rovers and Hanako) and holds a doctorate in creative writing from the University of Queensland. Katherine was an Artistic Associate at Queensland Theatre Company in 2015 and the chair of Playlab Theatre for five years. She regularly mentors and supports emerging writers, is a beekeeper and a CoralWatch Ambassador and has had her plays performed in Australia and Japan. Katherine is passionate about writing, social justice and the environment. She recently collaborated with Belgian artist Alexandra Cool on an art book containing Katherine’s poetry and Alexandra’s photography and painting. Parilanjarvi - blanketed and still was published in Europe in March, 2023.

KATHRYN KELLY 
Chair & Company Dramaturge

Kathryn is a dramaturg and theatre historian and a Senior Lecturer at QUT in the Drama area in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice. Her research interests include dramaturgy and socially engaged, feminist, ecological and transcultural performance practices. Kathryn has worked for every major festival and theatre company in Queensland; nationally for Theatreworks (Melbourne); Malthouse (Melbourne); Playwriting Australia (Sydney) and the Darwin Writers Centre and internationally for the Factory Theatre and Cahoots Theatre Projects in Toronto, Canada. Kathryn was CEO of Playlab (2004-2008), Australia’s second largest theatrical publisher, and Resident Artist for World Interplay, which was the largest festival for young playwrights in the world. She has also worked for Arts Queensland and other arts organisations in her 27 years in the performance sector.

 

KRISTEN MALONEY
Producer

Kristen is a performing arts director and producer who has created and presented diverse projects across Brisbane, regional Queensland, interstate, and internationally. Her work spans theatre, contemporary circus, digital installations, large-scale community engagement initiatives, and digital performances — with a particular focus on integrating emerging technologies such as augmented reality.

Kristen completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2024, where her research explored the intersection between augmented reality and live performance.

She is currently undertaking a Producer Fellowship investigating future-focused touring models for small-to-medium arts organisations across the Asia–Pacific region, supported by the Lord Mayor’s Creative Fellowship (Brisbane City Council) and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust Emerging Artist Grant.

NISSAH BLANCHFIELD
Administrator

Nissah has a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Business (Integrated Marketing Communications). Nissah has worked in the Performing Arts space for over 20 years, with experience in dance, drama, theatre, film production and distribution. During her time studying at QUT, Nissah participated in research projects within digital marketing and consumer insights using AI tools to gain online sentiment. She has since been involved in marketing Australian films both locally and internationally.
